It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and once went over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a team that has won it all.

The fact it required until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their hitters to maintain a record if not afforded the chance.

In the end, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting a chance to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has witnessed all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win happened three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India momentarily interrupted the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the case for the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was considerably tougher to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this performance followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it's been a frustrating experience because it appeared I've had no rhythm completely," commented Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your competitive nature take over and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has continuously been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in every game, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and after that Healy was in motion.

"An opportunity to play and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun that way, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at a World Cup - and her hundred in 84 as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

By the time she was removed the team required another 66 at one run per ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the confidence to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, should it happen, we believe we can achieve it."

These statements will be the last competing nations at this tournament need to hear.

In recent days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has only strengthened - this triumph coming after win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was at that stage they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a match Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wished she had played despite the injury.

But while she later admitted those physical issues have postponed plans to retire, this World Cup is likely to be her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a global event as skipper.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
