An extensive extended cruise through the Australian Coast was terminated following the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was stranded by the ship on a isolated island.

The passenger had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but broke off from the party for a break. The liner left without her and went back several hours later after the ship staff became aware the woman was not present.

An extensive rescue mission found her body the next day.

Authorities are examining the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that passengers and staff on the ship were informed that the rest of the journey had been called off due to the "tragic passing and earlier technical problems".

Through an announcement, he further stated that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to organize the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Authorities also issued an revised announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Captain" banning any additional guests from boarding the liner.

The representative said that they would attend the liner in Cairns upon its coming back.

The vessel originally sailed from the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the voyage at the time of the 80-year-old's demise. The remote island was the first stop on the itinerary.

Guests on the ship - who typically pay substantial amounts of currency to take part in the voyage - were ferried there for a day trip with the option of trekking or snorkelling.

Family Reaction

The offspring of the victim said that her relatives was "shocked and saddened that the liner left Lizard Island after an organised tour without my parent".

Through her comments, she characterized her mum as an "active elderly person" who was a participant of a walking group.

"From the little information we have been informed, it seems that there was a failure of attention and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She continued that she hoped the inquiry would be able to identify what "the company should have done that might have protected Mum's life".

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a exceptionally warm day, and mother took sick on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"Officials suggested her to go back, alone. Then the boat left, reportedly without performing a roll call.

"At a certain moment in that process, or soon after, mum died, without company."

Company Reaction

Via official communication, the Chief Executive verified that the company was "cooperating fully with authorities to assist their investigation".

He mentioned that the organization was "very regretful that this has happened" and had extended its complete assistance to the loved ones.

Shipping Sector Practices

The vessel serves up to a hundred twenty guests with forty-six crew, according to corporate details. It was specifically designed to reach remote areas of Australia's coast and is fitted with "small boats" - compact vessels used to transport travelers on shore trips.

Occurrences of this nature are rare, and cruise ships have procedures to document which travelers are embarking or disembarking, according to maritime specialists.

"Leaving covertly or [back] onboard really isn't an possibility," an authority remarked.

Shipping companies consider these processes very seriously and have "sophisticated systems in place to stop such events from occurring," the authority further stated.
