Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.

The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Officials report early analysis show the fluid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.

City officials said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.

A high-ranking political figure stated the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
